SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION

CONSTRUCTION'S CONTRIBUTION TO A FUTURE FREE OF POLLUTION

Hundreds of WHT’s multibillion-dollar green building projects have set new benchmarks for the industry and tested the limits of what is possible in terms of high performance at market rates; the company has been at the forefront of sustainable construction for quite some time.

EMBRACING THE GREEN MOVEMENT

We pondered today: what if individuals had higher expectations? What if development actually improved the atmosphere of a community? What if modern structures didn’t increase energy consumption? What if, in twenty-five years, the same things we construct now could still be efficiently run?

As part of our strategy for global social responsibility, we prioritize sustainable practices because simply talking about lifting the bar will not cut it. Among our pioneering work is the world’s largest structure to earn ILFI’s Zero Energy Certification; it uses zero net energy.

OUR ECO-FRIENDLY METHOD

To ensure that practical solutions are integrated into project conception, WHT advises customers and partners on what we have learned. We believe that the best results are achieved through more collaborative forms of delivery, where all project partners work together before a design is completed. To keep projects on track, WHT is also using systems that direct materials procurement in response to evolving material requirements.

It is still necessary to construct environmentally friendly structures. Through waste reduction, new technology, and efficient job site offices, we are always looking for methods to make our operations on the job site more sustainable. We also make sure that every project controls environmental factors that influence the community. The WHT team is certain that its triple-bottom-line strategy for sustainability—, which includes employing locals and giving back to the community—will create sustainable communities that can continue to prosper for years to come.

LIVING LABS: ADVANCING INNOVATIONS

WHT’s regional offices are all Net Zero Certified or on pace to become so. They serve as “living laboratories” for health and sustainability, where we try out new ideas and technology that we then incorporate into our client projects. With the freedom to explore novel approaches in these living labs, we can design customers’ intelligent, high-performing structures that surpass their expectations.

Ultimately, if we claim to believe in this, we should lead the way in demonstrating what is possible. To make a difference in creating a more sustainable built environment, we think it’s important to set an example in our own offices. We must demonstrate that competitive market rates can be achieved without sacrificing performance
