MEMORIAL HOSPITAL BAHÇELİEVLER

Details of the project

Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital is built on a total area of 72.000m2, 8000m2 of which is a green area. The hospital has been operating since the beginning of 2018 and has a capacity of 320 beds, 15 operating theatres, 49 intensive care units, 135 outpatient clinics, and 15 observation rooms. The Bahçelievler Hospital stands out as a high-standard project that demonstrates innovative design approaches among the healthcare structures, which WHT and Memorial Health Group realized together. All interiors are designed taking into account the healing sensation of patients, which they will feel in every detail of the hospital. During this design process, WHT  has benefited from the experience gained through patient behavior and from patient-centered design criteria by also considering environmental healing elements. Design processes and methods are developed associated with local authority regulations, international accreditation standards, and Leed requirements, which are taken as a basis, especially in material selection. The furniture used is also selected and produced according to these principles. The hospital is the first fully equipped hospital with Leed Platinum Certificate issued by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) in the world. It stands out with its low energy use and environment-friendly approach. As a part of the “healing environment” approach, which is a design principle to include nature inside the hospital, WHT worked with the digital visualization company Nohlab during the design process, and an artistic work was performed in which nature figure was digitally integrated to the interiors through the screens. The relationship between the structure and art is created by designing areas where temporary exhibitions will be arranged. An art object is located close to the escalators in the hospital lobby, which is an example of biophilic design as well as an art object designed by Pin Architects. Lighting design is analyzed in response to different scenarios and needs. Considering that the building is active 24 hours a day, the day and night scenarios are worked sensitively -especially for patient rooms and patient corridors- and are reached to the most accurate lighting setup. As the hospital is a general hospital, it contains many medical branches. Outpatient areas are designed differently per each medical branch. A child-focused design is created in the pediatric section, and the waiting areas in this department are also designed as playgrounds for children. Materials, colors, and textures were handled according to the needs of this space.
